Dear Varsha,

We got back from India Sunday Feb 18th.  We had a wonderful time in Kerala, thank you very much for arranging our tour.  We had an excellent, very knowledgeable driver and we felt very comfortable with him.  The only issue we had was when we got to Lake Palace they told us that we didn't have reservations.  They happened to have two rooms available so we got them based on the fact that if they didn't get the payment from you, we would cover the charges and we had agreed to do that.  It all got sorted out later and everything worked out fine.  Lake Palace was an excellent choice, we loved it.

The second comment I have is about Taj Malabar in Cochin, this was a hotel we had picked based on what we had seen on the internet.  It is an excellent hotel, with very good front desk service but I felt that their restaurants were not very accommodating.  It is a hotel where most of the Europeans stay and I got the feeling the restaurants mostly catered to them.  They had a barbeque outside for dinner and we were told it was full and we didn't have reservations, there was plenty of room but no effort was made to add more seating.  We tried another restaurant in the hotel and were told the same thing so we had to go to our third and last choice.  Here we were told that we could get food from outside but would have to sit inside to eat it.  It looked like the barbeque outside was mainly for the Europeans.  I just want to give you my feedback in case it would be of help.

Other than this, all the hotels and the house boat were very good and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour.  Again, thank you very much for arranging it for us.

Warm Regards,

Charanjeet Rai

Greetings Varsha,

Well we have settled back home now after our wonderful journey through India with Compass. I would just like to thank you for the excellent organisation of the trip. Everything went very well and in most places exceeded our expectations.

Our driver in northern India, Vikram was absolutely wonderful. He looked after us incredibly well and we are very grateful to him. He was always prepared to do an extra bit for us. This was especially appreciated on Christmas day when he turned up with flowers for us all. He always drove safely and kept the car clean. We are very grateful to him for making that part of the trip so smooth. We would definitely recommend him to people.

Our guides were also great. We also appreciated the Compass representatives who met us at every stop. They were unfailingly courteous and helpful. We really appreciated their flexibility such as when one of the children was not well or we were very tired and needed to adjust our timetable.

Our trip down south was also great. Our driver there was fine (not quite as good as Vikram) but always courteous and helpful. The process was not quite as smooth when we did not have Compass agents but we were still extremely pleased.

We loved the majority of places we stayed at particularly Mandawa(Mandawa Haveli),Chennai(Marina Towers), Bikaner(Bhawar Niwas) Jaislamer(Jaisal Castle) Jodpur(Pal Haveli)and Kumarkom(Kovilum Lakeside).

Our only disappointments were Tourist Deluxe in Delhi. our concern here was the location made it difficult to walk very far and feel safe. Also we found this hotel a bit overwhelming as our first stop and would probably have appreciated something a bit easier to start with. Our other disappointment was Oriental Towers (Tanjore) which was quite dirty.

Occasionally our itinerary was a bit too busy in Rajasthan and it was difficult to do tours after a long days driving however these are only minor issues. Overall we were extremely happy and would recommend your company to anyone. If you wish us to be a referee for your company please let us know.

Thank you again and best wishes to all at Compass who made our trip so wonderful.

Hi Durjay,

I wanted to thank you for another very nice trip.  We realize that MP is not as prepared for tourists as Rajasthan.  The lack of a steady flow of electricity is more of an irritation than a real problem.  I think my favorite place was in Mandu where the electricity was off more than it was on.  We liked the accomodations.  They were very basic but the atmosphere made for a very enjoyable stay.  They were able to provide sealed bottles of water for us even though we saw other bottles being refilled and placed side by side with the ones we purchased.  While we were in Gwalior the state fair was taking place and we were able to attend.  What a lot of fun that was.  In Ujjain we could have dealt with the bed with only one sheet and the bucket of hot water in the evening.  Unfortunately I went in the wrong door and ended up in the kitchen which was what prompted the call to you.  Thank you for making the change. The Fort Amla was quite an adventure.  While the owner assured us it was only a 45 minute trip it did take us about an hour and half each way.  The last maybe 9 kilometers was on a very poor road which was dug out in two places.  The driver and guide and us were  laughing so hard by the time we got there we couldn't stop.  The Fort was nice and clean and the owner talked with us until dinner was prepared.  The dinner was very tasty and good but I thought it was a bit over priced at 300 rupees for peas pulao, cauliflower and potatoes. There was also dessert which was good.  We did enjoy the stay. The monuments we saw were outstanding.  Hopefully more tourists will be able to enjoy them soon.  Gwalior Fort/Orchha/Shivpuri/ Sanchi/Bhimbetka and Ujjain were all well worth visiting.  It would have been nice to have a guide in Shivpuri as the gentleman who showed us around had minimal English skills.  The other guides seemed very knowledgeable and we enoyed each of them.  Oh also Deeg was really nice, I'm so glad we were able to see it. There were a few concerns.  The bird sanctuary was a disappointment.  We had particularly enjoyed the boat ride with the many water birds.  I wish we had been told that the monsoon did not come last year and therefore there were no water birds and no boat rides.  Had we known that we would have opted to see Mathura.  While we seemed to see the sights we were supposed to we were sent for 'rest periods' fairly often.  In Orchha our guide received a phone call that he had to take another group on a tour. We were taken to the hotel to 'rest' and finish our tour later in the afternoon.  In Bhopal our guide suggested we didn't need a guide at the Museum of Mankind and had the driver take us.  We saw what we could of the museum building.  There were few visitors and most of the lights were not turned on.  I suspect that there was an outdoor part of the museum that we may have missed.  Our guide opted for us to see the State Museum in Bhopal. It was one of the very nicest museums I have ever seen.  The quality and visibility of the displays exceeded either the British Museum or the Egyptian Museum.  I sent them an email to tell them how much we enjoyed it.  Neither Bhimbetka nor Sanchi took a whole day so we 'rested' in the afternoon.  It would have been nice to see the Arts Museum in Bhopal on one of the afternoons.  During the course of the trip I finished three books during our rest periods.  We did add stops in Dhar which were very enjoyable.  In Ujjain we made 3-4 stops.  We saw another State Museum in Indore that we could have missed.  Durjay let me emphasize that we did have a nice trip and these concerns did not overall spoil our experience. We did find the trip more strenuous than our other trips.  Another concern was that we understood that India has now been classified as a high cost tourist spot.  Please be honest with us.  Are the prices rising so much that India will be out of our price range for future trips?  There a other places we would still like to see but if the cost is too great we understand.  Please feel free to refer others who want recommendations on Compass services to us.  We most definately will always give a very positive recommendation. Warm regards Barb

Hey Varsha,

This is Ginni.  I hope you remember me from the summer: I bothered you constantly about a tour of South India.  Sorry I didn't email you afterwards.  My email account tanked on me, and I lost all the emails I had been amassing in my inbox.    I have to say, on behalf of my whole family, that the tour was amazing.  We all had such a blast and were just glowing with praise.  We espeically loved our driver Mr Muni as well as Mr Om Prakash in Mumbai.  He had our sides aching with laughter.  The whole Compass team was so wonderful and accomadating.  We're already considering perhaps doing another tour next year in East India.    As my family is compromised of avid cricket fans I had a question that would fall under you area of expertise.  I was curious as to whether your company would organize trips or tours in the West Indies at this time.  Or even if you could organize it for us, should we choose to go.    Thanks and hope to hear from you soon,

 Ginni

Dear Varsha

Thank you so much for all your efforts to make our family holiday such a huge success. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed our visit to India and our only disappointment was not seeing any tigers at Ranthambore but at least we have an excuse to return!

The hotels and tours all worked out very well indeed....We particularly enjoyed our stay at the Meridien in Jaipur with its Gala Dinner for New Year's Eve, and enjoyed the peace and quiet and beautiful setting of Dev Villas, and good home cooking. The Nikko in Delhi was fine, but the Trident Hilton in Agra was a bit disappointing - it was a nice hotel but the food and the service there was not very good. Our driver and his companion was superb and our guides were very good. We will not hesitate to recommend Compass Tours to our friends who wish to visit India.

Many thanks again for your efforts on our behalf.

Best regards
Graham and Debi Evans

Varsha Hello:

I wanted to thank you for planning an amazing trip. The itinerary could not have been better (I really wish I had more days!).  Bhawani was WONDERFUL! He took his time to educate me and allowed me to get a glimpse into Indian culture, lifestyle and experience.  I never felt rushed or felt uncomfortable, it was great to have someone so courteous and knowledgeable alongside throughout the trip, he is a great guide.

I am also convinced that Rajesh is the safest driver of India.  It's beyond my comprehension how one can feel safe in a car in your country, but thanks to Rajesh, I certainly did!   I will highly recommend your company upon my arrival to NY.  Thank you for a wonderful trip! Jane.

PS Feel free to use me as a reference.

Hello Shweta

We would like to thank you and all the people working with you - District representatives of Compass Tours, drivers and guides for the wonderful trip we had. Everything worked like we were promised and beyond.

We would like to mention few distinct persons: First you yourself - Your answers were quick, the itinerary you suggested was very good and I enjoyed our negotiations. Secondly - all the drivers we had and especially our first driver Mr. Jogander Singh who accompanied us for 4 days and evenings - He was very attentive to all our needs way beyond just being an excellent driver. Those are very pleasant and hard working, very able and safe drivers. They drive in a very hard transport environment. Those drivers cared for us and I would like to mention that they are, in our eyes, the main power of your company. They are earning very small sums even for Indian standards and your company will do best for itself to keep those able men working for Compass Tours because they are the main reason to tell all our friends about Compass Tours.

The guides were good almost at all places. I would highly recommend Mr. Kumar (I don't know his surname) who was our guide at Varanasi. He suggested to us also an evening tour at the evening which was an highlight of our trip. I think that you had better enter such a tour in your regular itinerary. In addition to the night ceremony and the cremation of bodies which takes place mainly in the night, It gave us opportunity to walk the streets and see life at the street and not only through the car's window. This brings me to my last remark - better add some similar experiences instead of some of the temples. A country is more than just it's temples. This is what gave us the most satisfaction.

My wife and I thank all of you very much and would recommend you to all our friends.

Dear Varsha

Just wanted to say Thank You for a fantastic holiday. Mrs Brown and I enjoyed every moment ...all the hotels were superb and everything was very smooth...no glitches anywhere. You did a great job of planning and organising everything.

Also a big Thanks to our driver Vinod who is a delightful young man. His driving was careful and he is efficient and always on time. Really a pleasure to have with us.

I know Mrs Brown is thinking to return again in the spring and I have also recommended you to another friend of mine...Mrs Geraldine Boss, who is interested to make the same trip as we did. I am sure she will be in touch very soon. Once again, many many thanks and we will certainly continue to use our company next time we visit India.

Very Best Regards
Barbara
